Wetherby achieved a 1-2 in the topics at the area contests in York on Sunday 7th February. Chris Clissitt was the winner with Howard Herbert runner up, speaking on the topic “Blue Sky Thinking.”
Chris Clissitt was second to Lindsay Dutch in the evaluation contest. Lindsay returned to the fray after stepping out of the competitions while National President, including his years as Vice and Immediate Past President.
Wetherby had no luck in the speech contest although Niki Boersma with “Inspiration v Perspiration” and Neil Wilson with “500 Miles” both delivered excellent speeches and acquitted themselves well. The speech contest winner was Ramana Sundara with Clive Dawson runner up.
The curious feature of these contests was that York RI chose to field three competitors in each contest while Wetherby were represented by the traditional two. A gold and two silvers wasn’t a bad return against the odds!
