Chris Clissitt won the National Speech final for the second time on Saturday 25th April in Southport with his speech “Here’s the Thing.” He won it for the first time in Donington in 2013. Chris became the fourth person to win the national trophy twice, following Alan Gebbie (1981 and 1983), Michael Ronayne (2007 and 2010) and Thomas Scott (2008 and 2011).
Jan Millar represented Eastern District in the topics contest on Friday evening and was unfortunate not to gain a place, not least for being the only contestant to speak in favour of the topic “It’s better to be born rich than lucky”!
