Spoof National President Election – After Dinner Speech Contest

In a bold and exciting new initiative the Association of Speakers Clubs decided to open up the prestigious position of National President to people from outside the Association.

Baroness Photobooth (Jan Millar) receives the makeshift trophy from judge Clive Dawson.

This was the scenario for the annual After Dinner Speech Contest held at the Bridge Inn, Walshford, on Friday 7th April.  Speakers adopted thinly disguised characters and delivered light hearted speeches as they stated their claim to be elected as President of the ASC for 2018-9.

Congratulations to the winner, Jan Millar, as Baroness Photobooth, who gave a very persuasive pitch whilst being most particular about her correct form of address.

The only slight hitch was the loss of the trophy by last year’s winner Queen Buddy Carr of the Iceni on the way to the venue in her chariot.

The other speakers were Baroness Barlady (Niki Boersma), Sir Richard Brandstone (John Holian), Nigel Fromage (Donald Fraser) and Lord Sucre (Chris Clissitt).

The MC was Carol Voodooman (Jocelyn Brooks, winner last year) and the judge was Clive Dawson.
