Evaluation and judging – next meeting 5th March

Saturday, February 21st, 2015

Our next meeting is at The Days Inn at Wetherby Services at Junction 46 of the A1M at 7.45pm for 8pm on Thursday 5th March 2015.

The ASC Immediate Past President, Lindsay Dutch, will run a training session on evaluation and judging.  Evaluation is the most important skill – it is how we develop and improve as speakers. Even the most experienced evaluators will be able to learn something from Lindsay’s workshop. After all, we are talking here about a twice National Evaluation Contest champion!!

Judging is a different skill from evaluation, and Lindsay’s session will provide an invaluable insight. Whether you are a veteran of many contests or new to judging and thinking of taking the plunge, there will be something useful to take away from the evening.

Chris Clissitt won both the speech and topics contests at the Vale of York Area contests on Sunday 1st February and will represent the Club and Area at the Eastern District contests on 8th March at the Bridge Inn, Walshford.  His speech “In Praise of the Red Herring” was his 7th success in the Area speech contest.  Niki Boersma did the club proud, taking the runners up spot with her thought provoking speech entitled “Whistle While You Work.”

Neil Wilson, with an excellent effort, was runner up to Ramana Sundara of York RISC in the evaluation contest. Sarah Daniel of York RISC was runner up to Chris in the topics contest.
