President Neil Wilson opened the latest meeting of Wetherby Speakers Club and welcomed two guests, Julia Frater and Anne Wentworth.  Both Julia and Anne are keen to improve their communications skills for business and social reasons and are certain to benefit significantly by visiting the Club. Peter Wilson then chaired the meeting and introduced Caroline Boom who gave an interesting speech about “Luck”. At this point the meeting departed from the usual format when five members all evaluated the same speech as they competed for the Club Evaluation Contest Trophy.  Evaluation is the cornerstone of the Club’s activities because it is the way that members help other speakers to improve their skills with constructive advice. John Holian was a worthy winner and Chris Clissitt came second.  Both will represent the Club in the Vale of York Area contests on 15th January.

Chris Clissitt then set speakers the challenging task of speaking off the cuff for two minutes on the theme of a variety of quotations from famous and not so famous people. John Holian evaluated the topics session.
