33rd Anniversary Charter Dinner

Friday, November 26th, 2010

The annual dinner was held slightly earlier this year to save our speakers from competing with the  Christmas disco which always seems to start just as our speeches begin! The  33rd Anniversary Charter Dinner was held at The Bridge Inn, Walshford on Friday 19th November 2010.

Our President, Neil Wilson, delivered the Toast to the Association of Speakers Clubs and Barbara Cresswell of White Rose Speakers Club gace the response. Peter Nellist proposed the Toast to the Guests, and Terry Harrison, also known as the best member the ASC never had, delivered the response.

President Neil Wilson chaired the latest meeting of Wetherby Speakers Club, and introduced three speeches. Chris Clissitt gave an excellent “Mean What You Say” educational speech advising members on how to really get their point across. Nikki Boersma then gave a speech entitled “Can You Tantz?” about dancing. Finally Jan Millar entertained the audience with an account of an old school reunion.

The speeches were evaluated by Peter Wilson, Mavis Cryer and Jocelyn Brooks who gave constructive and helpful comments on each Speaker’s performance. Caroline Boom then set speakers the task of speaking off the cuff for two minutes on the theme of famous Nursery Rhymes. Scott Stephenson evaluated the topics session and Peter Nellist gave his views on the evening as a whole in his role as General Evaluator.
